Jeff Kraus to lead Student Workshop

Jeff Kraus to lead Student Workshop

We’re excited to announce that Jeff Kraus will be taking us to mark-making and texture school on Thursday, November 1, from 3:30 – 5:30. He’ll be leading us through his art-making process which includes finding and using texture, reactionary mark-making, and arranging elements for composition.

This workshop is for current high school students. Students are required to bring 10 textures they’ve found or created the week prior and warm, comfortable clothes that can get messy.

I first saw his work at Madcap and instantly fell in love with his palette, honest mark-making and composition. Check out his work at jeffkraus.tumblr.com or jeffkraus.net.

Mark Making

Mark Making

This month our After School Workshop Series for high school students is focused on mark making. We have been inspired lately by Candy Chang, an artist who explores ways to interact with her community, and wanted to do a project in our studio that allows people express their feelings about the environment they live in.

So we turned our chalkboard wall into an expression of what people desire more of in our community, and what they want less of.  Less                  . More                .

Students were the first to fill out what they thought our community needs more of and less of.  Less Screen. More Paper. Less TV. More Reading. Less Homework. More Learning.

The wall project launches us in to the remainder of the month’s mark making, experiments with spray paint, some photography, epic brainstorming sessions and finally a zine project where students will self publish their own zine.

Visual Hero

Visual Hero

On Friday afternoon at the end of their workweek Visual Hero joined us for a Like the pro’s do it workshop. They came with two designs and when they got to Ambrose we walked through the whole screen print process. Each person got to print their own T-shirts and left with two rad looking visual hero T-shirts.

Mom’s in Tow

Mom’s in Tow

Mom’s in Tow is a really fun group of active Mom’s in our area. To kick off the beginning of fall these Mom’s and kids came in for a hands on screen printing session.  We had four designs to choose from and everyone got to print the design of their choosing onto a onsie, T-shirt or market bag. While the Mom’s printed away, the kids and young at heart gathered around the fort beneath the tables and played legos.

Wasana shows off the T-shirt she made at our stencil making workshop with Americorps. Each participant got to create their own T-shirt by making a stencil of their design.  We’re very excited to be kicking off a new series of workshops for the community, if you want more info check out our group workshop options.
